About the event

Milton Crotts, music director Alfred Savia, conductor Inessa Zaretsky, piano

In honor of Beethoven’s 250th birthday, Music Director Milton Crotts has programmed a family-friendly feast of Beethoven! Classical Kids’ Beethoven Lives Upstairs is a dramatic introduction to the man and his music, centered around a lively exchange of letters between young Christoph and his uncle. Their subject is the “madman” (Beethoven) who has moved into the upstairs apartment of Christoph’s Vienna home. Through a touching correspondence dramatically underscored with the composer’s most beautiful excerpts, the young boy slowly comes to understand the genius of the man, the torment of his deafness, and the beauty of his music. Told through music and story, this interdisciplinary work is a treat for concertgoers of all ages.

Following Beethoven Lives Upstairs, concert pianist Inessa Zaretsky will perform the Rondo from Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Professor of piano at The New School University in Manhattan, Ms. Zaretsky is an award-winning pianist and composer whose performances have taken her around the world while her music has been performed in England, Norway, Canada, Australia, Italy, Russia, and throughout the United States.
